This site is inspired by the music of Django Reinhardt. As R&B and Rock and Roll were born in the United States and the UK artists like Django Reinhardt were moving music forward in continental Europe. Django and his contemporaries brand of "Gypsy Jazz" inspire modern music almost as much as the Beatles and Elvis. While not reaching the commercial heights of Elvis or The Beatles, Mr. Reinhardt's legacy is just as strong.
Groups like Paris49's (self titled CD is on sale at CD Baby) pay homage to this era of music. A little blurb about Paris 49:
Formed in Austin, Texas late 2003, Paris49 gathers 5 guys who share the same passion for American Jazz and its
interpretation by Django Reinhardt's various bands of the 30's and
40's. The sound is the blend of 2 electrified Gypsy guitars and the tenor saxophone, a thick and surreal effect. Upright bass and
drums work intricately together, flirting with a Be-Bop beat, while
never really stating it.
Visit the "listen" or "shows" page to discover great gypsy music.
Visit Paris to experience the sights and sounds of this amazing era of music.
